About us

The Center for autism Rijeka was founded in 1996 as a branch of the Center of Zagreb. We began our first school year in the quart of Turnic with two care and education groups that counted 8 students. Twenty one years later, the Center for autism Rijeka is located in the quart of Potok at the address Ulica Stane Vancine 1, and counts 26 students and 10 adult beneficiaries.

With 2018 the Center for autism Rijeka becomes an independent institution that provides nurturing, education and rehabilitation of persons on the autism spectrum in accordance with article 8 and article 9 of the Rulebook on elementary and middle school care and education of students with development difficulties. This entails studying in class departments

and education groups through special programs and with individualized procedures. The rehabilitation of adult beneficiaries is based on enabling them to have an occupation as a part of their life. The contents, results, methods and procedures of each education and rehabilitation program are completely adapted to the particularities and necessities of each individual and are based on the individual’s strengths.

The education and rehabilitation of our attendees is conducted with expert knowledge and confirmed methods of working with persons on the autism spectrum by a team of 20 highly educated professionals, with different professional profiles comprised of educational rehabilitators, speech therapists, psychologists, social educators,

kinesiologists, art and music therapists, religious teachers, as well as 4 nurses/medical technicians. The Center for autism Rijeka is equipped with contemporary didactic materials and sensory-motoric devices, has a sensory room, a room for relaxation, as well as a sensory park. In cooperation with the Agency for Upbringing and Education, the Center formed a Mobile team of experts to support educators, expert associates and parents of students on the autism spectrum who attend regular preschool institutions and schools.

In the future we hope to become the Center for education and rehabilitation support for students on the autism spectrum that are integrated in regular foster and education systems.
